CCTT has been competing at GNCTR for decades. The team’s progress has rapidly improved in recent years by going from a small competing team of 10 in 2019 to a 30 person squad in 2020. That was the first time that CCTT had sent the maximum number of 30 people to GNCTR but hopefully not the last. In 2022, the in-person portion of the competition was cancelled, but it did not stop us from having an amazing 30 person team and getting a couple podiums for ourselves:
- #1 Project Management
- #2 Team Spirit
With relation to toboggan performance, design and presentation, GNCTR 2020 was our team’s most successful competition to date. The 2020 CCTT made the podium for 8 out of 14 awards and made the podium for 20 of 35 categories. Some notable accolades include:
- #2 Overall
- #1 Team Spirit
- #1 Technical Poster Design
- #2 Best Toboggan Design
- #2 Best Performing Toboggan (top speed of 71 km/h)
At the 2019 competition, CCTT sent 10 students to GNCTR in Edmonton. The team’s objective for this competition was to simply make a toboggan that would make it across the finish line - this was done successfully. The team made significant strides in making the toboggan more sustainable by using discarded hockey sticks as reinforcement in the concrete skis. Of the 21 competing teams, CCTT placed 7th overall. Notable awards include:
- #1 Most Sustainable Team (as a result of the hockey stick reinforcement)
- #1 Top Speed
- #1 Steering Performance
- #2 Best Performing Toboggan
- #3 Toboggan Safety
